Back when I was a little girl I wasn’t much of a comic book reader, but I was really into some of the more boyish things that were on TV. Such things that were on were Power Rangers, Transformers: Beast Wars/Beast Machines, Beetle Borgs and such other things. The one comic I did read when I was younger was the Sonic the Hedgehog Comics that were being published way back then. Every week when we went to the Kroger’s I would go to the magazines and read every Sonic Comic that came out so far. It was really fun, but eventually we stop going as often and I lost touch with the story line. I’m not even sure what was the last comic I read from that old comic…
I lost interest in comics for a long time but I did follow a lot of the cartoons that came out about superheroes, like Batman. Batman was by far my favorite growing up just because of all the episodes (Superman was okay, Justice League was cool, and I did watch Spiderman) but I didn’t get into comics again for a long time. Then came 9/11, which lead me to the library.
Apparently DC and Marvel had come out with these comics that used their characters to help deal with the pain. When I opened up the DC one I read a story about a little boy who had lost his father in the towers, and a woman named Raven helped him. When I read her I couldn’t help but wonder more about her and I began to research her. She was apart of the Teen Titans, and what else my research uncovered she was the daughter of a demon. At once my interest was up and I followed the cartoon that came out faithfully.
When the show got canceled (like all good shows I like do), I tried to find something else to watch. The show I ended up watching next lead me back into the comics I love now; The Legion of Superheroes. The show caught my attention from the first episode, since it had a young Superman and a strange descendent of Brainiac. Oh, I loved Brainiac Five and it was love for him that brought me back into comics.
Legion of Superheroes was canceled after the ending of season two, much to my dislike, but I wanted more about this group of heroes. Then I joined the Navy, and my interest stayed. When I got to my current base, I found the area had a lot of comic book stores and I began to buy up as many of them as I could. Any to deal with the Legion, and other Superheroes that began to catch my attention, like Green Lantern Corps (I only read that because of Blackest Night but I fell in love with Guy.)
Currently I read Action Comics, Adventure Comics, Blackest Night, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Booster Gold, Supergirl, World of New Krypton, and a few more. I also enjoy reading old Legion issues from the 1980’s and before and after that time. Anything to do with Supergirl/Brainiac Five is good for me. It makes me feel warm and happy inside, and that kind of feeling is hard for me to find in this place. More to come later.
